Free income tax service at University High School has reached a milestone. Beginning January 28, 2025, the Ron E. Smith Academy of Business and Finance will begin its twenty-first year serving the Central Texas community with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The finance academy is one of the curriculum offerings of the A.J. Moore Academies at University High School.

During the past twenty-one years, academy students have prepared more than 35,000 electronic tax returns securing citizens more than $48 million in refunds. The service has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as the largest student run VITA Program in the country.

Tax services this year will once again be offered at University High School located at 3201 S. New Road. The site will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., from January 28 to April 10.
